Abortion
In Delaware, November 23, 1996, two teenagers wrapped their newborn baby in a plastic bag and dumped it in a trash bin outside the motel. The baby died of a fractured skull, and the two parents subsequently were charged with first degree murder. Apparently the baby's mother didn't want her parents to find out she was pregnant.
As disturbing as that is, what's even more frightening is what columnist George Will pointed out the next day in the Washington Post: "Don't young people read newspapers? Don't [these two teenagers] know that ... they could have simply chosen to have a doctor suck their baby's brains out, and Delaware would not have chosen to charge them with murder?"

Statistics show that 70 percent of women who walk into abortion clinics say that they have a church affiliation, and 27 percent say that they attend church at least once a week. It is estimated that one out of six women who regularly attend church have experienced abortion.

Would You Consider Abortion in These Four Situations?
- There is a preacher and wife who are very, very poor. They already have 14 kids. Now she finds out she is pregnant with her 15th. They are living in tremendous poverty. Considering their poverty and the excessive world population, would you consider recommending abortion?
- The father is sick with sniffles, the mother has TB. They have 4 children. The first is blind, the second is dead. The third is deaf and the fourth has TB. The mother finds she is pregnant again. Given the extreme situation, would you recommend abortion?
- A white man raped a 13 year old black girl and she got pregnant. If you were her parents, would you consider recommending abortion?
- A teenage girl is pregnant. She is not married. Her fiancee is not the father of the baby, and he is very upset. Would you recommend an abortion?
If you answered yes to any of these questions, then you have recommended the killing of...
- John Wesley, one of the great evangelists of the 19th century,
- Beethoven,
- Ethel Waters, the great African-American gospel singer, and
- Jesus of Nazareth.

"Human embryos are not mere biological tissues or clusters of cells; they are the tiniest of human beings. If nurtured and not destroyed, these embryos will develop into human infants. They are not "potential" human lives; they are human beings who are developing and growing. We have the responsibility not to harm them unjustly and unnecessarily. To do so is not only immoral, but unconscionable. Of all human beings, these are the most defenseless against abuse."

Catholic Archbishop Says Pro-Choice Stand Has "No Moral Basis"
DENVER (RNS)-Roman Catholic Archbishop J. Francis Stafford received a standing ovation after he told a Catholic women's gathering June 5 that there is "no conceivable moral basis for a pro-choice position" on abortion. His speech drew criticism, however, from the media, Colorado politicians and a liberal Catholic group because of its criticism of political leaders who make a distinction between their personal beliefs on abortion and their responsiblitites as public officials.
In his address to the annual Archdiocesan Council of Catholic Women meeting in Fort Morgan, Archbishop Stafford said it is "logically inconsistent and morally irresponsible" for a public official to oppose abortion while defending a woman's right to choose.

OCTOBER 5 - Today my life began. My parents do not know it yet, I am as small as a seed of an apple, but it is I already. And I am to be a girl. I shall have blond hair and blue eyes. Just about everything is settled though, even the fact that I shall love flowers.
OCTOBER 19 - Some say that I am not a real person yet, that only my mother exists. But I am a real person, just as a small crumb of bread is yet truly bread. My mother is. And I am.
OCTOBER 23 - My mouth is just beginning to open now. Just think, in a year or so I shall be laughing and later talking. I know what my first word will be: MAMA.
OCTOBER 25 - My heart began to beat today all by itself. From now on it shall gently beat for the rest of my life without ever stopping to rest! And after many years it will tire. It will stop, and then I shall die.
NOVEMBER 2 - I am growing a bit every day. My arms and legs are beginning to take shape. But I have to wait a long time yet before those little legs will raise me to my mother's arms, before these little arms will be able to gather flowers and embrace my father.
NOVEMBER 12 - Tiny fingers are beginning to form on my hands. Funny how small they are! I'll be able to stroke my mother's hair with them.
NOVEMBER 20 - It wasn't until today that the doctor told mom that I am living here under her heart. Oh, how happy she must be! Are you happy, mom?
NOVEMBER 25 - My mom and dad are probably thinking about a name for me. But they don't even know that I am a little girl. I want to be called Kathy. I am getting so big already.
DECEMBER 10 - My hair is growing. It is smooth and bright and shiny. I wonder what kind of hair mom has.
DECEMBER 13 - I am just about able to see. It is dark around me. When mom brings me into the world it will be full of sunshine and flowers. But what I want more than anything is to see my mom. How do you look, mom?
DECEMBER 24 - I wonder if mom hears the whispering of my heart? Some children come into the world a little sick. But my heart is strong and healthy. It beats so evenly: tup-tup, tup-tup. You'll have a healthy little daughter, mom!
DECEMBER 28 - Today
my mother killed me
