WHAT A "HOOT"!
British bird lover Neil Symmons was ecstatic. For 12 months the owl calls he made from his garden at dusk attracted answers from the wild. He couldn't believe how skilled he'd become at attracting owls with his calls.
One day, though, Symmons' wife Kim mentioned Neil's pastime to her next-door neighbor Wendy Cornes ... and Wendy replied that her husband Fred had also been spending his evenings talking to an owl. The embarrassed men quickly realized that they had spent the past year "whoo-whoo-ing" not at owls but at each other!
Neil's and Fred's owl calls were good enough that they were able to fool one another. Christian, remember too that, when Satan speaks to you, he is smart enough to fool you into thinking you're hearing God's voice. Only by using God's Word as your constant guide will you be able consistently to discern the TRUE voice of God.

While sitting in church one Sunday, a young girl heard the pastor say that God sometimes speaks in a "still, small voice."
Moments later, the girl's stomach rumbled. She looked up at her mother with a startled expression and asked, "Mommy, was that God?"

North Carolina pastor Mark Courts was on his way to a revival one evening, and was running late. He hurriedly pulled into a full-service gas station. As he sat in his vehicle, he felt God leading him to share the Gospel with the young man who was pumping gas. He argued with God: I don't have time, I don't have the ability… He pulled away from the gas station, promising God (and himself) that he would return to that same station the next night and speak with the young man.
The next night's revival service lasted longer than expected, so he couldn't return that night. He did return to the gas station the next morning, and was surprised to find the station closed. Puzzled, he began to pull away—until he noticed the wreath on the front door.
He noticed a small note hanging beside the wreath. Numbly, he walked toward the door, knowing what he'd find written there. Sure enough, the young man had been killed in an automobile accident the day before. Mark had missed an opportunity that wouldn't come back again...
At that moment, he recalled the biblical story of King Saul. Because Saul was disobedient, God had no choice but to "put him on the shelf" and call another person to be His appointed king. When we let once-in-a-lifetime opportunities slip by, we're running the risk of forcing God to "put us on the shelf," and find someone else who'll be more willing to do His bidding. (And, of course, that's not to mention the irreparable damage we can do to others by refusing to minister to them.)

In January 1999, the House Judiciary Committee released the Linda Tripp audio tapes which were at the center of the Bill Clinton—Monica Lewinsky scandal. The 37 tapes contained 22 hours of conversation between Mrs. Tripp and Monica Lewinsky. Radio and television stations had been eagerly waiting the arrival of these tapes.
Although these tapes did not reveal any more information than the transcripts released a few months earlier, they did contain the sound of Monica Lewinsky's voice. The public had been anxiously awaiting its first chance to hear that voice!
Why do people not place as much interest in hearing God's voice, as recorded in the written Word?

A MESSAGE FROM GOD?
A minister's little boy looked into his father's study while he was writing his sermon. "Daddy," asked the little boy, "does GOD tell you what to say?"
"Of course, my son, of course!"
"Then why do you keep scratching some of it out?"
