Here's an official quote from the recent American Association of Therapeutic Humor Convention:
"A positive, upbeat state can take an active role in the healing process and if you can incorporate laughter and other positive approaches...then you have the potential to improve your state of well- being."
In other words: LAUGHTER CAN MAKE YOU WELL.
Doctors and nurses at this medical conference actually wear Groucho noses, distribute "Mirth Aid Kits," and read from publications such as the "Journal of Nursing Jocularity."
You say that you can't laugh, given your present situation? Psalm 126:1-2 reads: "When the Lord restored the fortunes of Zion, we were like those who dream. Then our mouth was filled with laughter, and our tongue with shouts of joy; then it was said among the nations, 'The Lord has done great things for them.'" The understanding that God has "restored your fortunes" (by providing for your salvation!) can plant laughter in your heart and on your lips once again.

In Zaire, the government operates medical stations which dispense needed medicines to natives, but there are still vast regions where medicine is not readily available. A group of medical missionaries once set up a medicine-dispensing station in one of those regions.
During their stay there, a group of natives traveled a great distance to receive treatment. During the conversation, it was revealed that these particular natives actually lived right nearby one of the government's dispensing stations, yet they'd chosen instead to travel a great distance to the missionary's station.
The missionaries asked why they'd chosen this station over the government station. The natives replied, "The medicine is the same at the other station, but the hands are different here."

Often, the "medicine" we dispense as Christians is the same "medicine" that the world can offer: kind words, a helping hand, charitable deeds. But, we are able to offer that medicine with hands that are different—different because God is at work through our hands.
